George Allie Schmidt

George Allie Schmidt was granted his Angel wings in the early morning hours of August 21, 2016 and entered into eternal peace surrounded by the love of his family at Huntington Assisted Care Facility in Janesville, WI. George passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was 88 years old.
George was born October 15, 1927 in Loyal, WI. He was 1 of 10 children (7 brothers and 2 sisters) of Christine and John Schmidt, all preceded him in death.
In 1944, George enlisted in the Army Air Corp at the age of 17 and served from 1944-1946 as an Air Traffic Controller. He joined the ranks of 6 of his brothers to serve in the military. He was very proud of his time in service.
George and Mary Jane (Grall) were married April 7, 1951 and together raised 4 children: Mike, Steve, Deb, and Kathy. They are blessed with 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
George worked at General Motors for 45 years, retiring in 1992. George and Mary Jane traveled the world together exploring Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Turkey. They enjoyed traveling throughout the United States especially Virginia. They also spent time in Florida and Missouri and Door County, WI.
George never met a stranger. His light of kindness shone bright with all the years he volunteered as an electrician with the Senior Services Community, the Boy Scouts of America where he received the Order of the Arrow while he was a Scout Master. George was one of the founders of the Blackhawk Credit Union. George went back to school and earned his GED in 1971!
He loved people, traveling and his fur babies. However, his most treasured moments have been with his family.
He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by the love of his life, Mary Jane of 65 years and their 4 children Michael & family, Steven & family, Deborah & family, and Kathleen & Jennifer. We have you in our hearts and God has you in his care. You may be gone but never forgotten.
Special thanks to the care givers at Huntington Place and Agrace Hospice, also the support and prayers from St John Vianney.
Arrangements will be at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home. A private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association (info@alz.org).
